Poseidon's Fury (Part Two)

I wonder sometimes if it's worth it to hope,
Have I tethered my heart with too long a rope?
I have let myself love, and be loved in return;
But it seem up to chance if I'm wanted or spurned.

Perhaps it's a fear spawned from my head alone,
Insecurity, pain, and heart walled with stone,
But the masonry's cracking, the structure is weak,
When I let you inside, it started to leak.

If it weren't for that fracture, Poseidon would fall.
Nothing could scale or damage my wall.

Addendum

Ashes to ashes, stonework to dust.
Mankind is a tangle of virtue and lust.

Standing on friendship is risky support,
Affections are fleeting and lifetimes are short.

Love without pain is not love from the soul,
But love without love takes a terrible toll.

Brothers will fail, parents reject,
Sisters abandon, so be circumspect.

Nourish your heart, but don't cage it fast.
Disappointment's a symptom of having a past.

There is no solution but hoping for grace,
And looking for goodness in every trace.
