Fracture

I saw a tremor crack the world in two -
It rumbled with a force that shook my bones.
I watched it fling me far away from you
and fill my heart with anguished, aching moans.
I knew with horror when I heard that sound,
that though I'd tried to keep it all together,
I had been the one to split the ground
and fracture things I'd hoped would last forever.
